I think it’s safe to say that everyone wants something in their life to be different. Some people want almost everything to be different. What separates the people that actually do the things and make the changes from the people who never do more than wish and have the same old life to show for it?

  1. Intentions. Wishes are the hope that something will appear from nowhere. Intentions acknowledge that it’s your responsibility.

  2. Choices. If you’re not changing it, you’re choosing it. And your choices always reflect your intentions. You might be telling yourself that you want to take that course but if you’re choosing Netflix, your real intention is clear.

  3. Excuses. Excuses just mean that you didn’t prioritize it. Think about that. What did you have to do that was more important than making the change you keep saying you want?

  4. Motivation. Do you really want it but you’re still not doing what you need to? Analyze that. Are you sure you really want it or does someone else want it for you? If you want it, why aren’t you doing it? There’s a reason. Find it.

  5. Willpower. If you don’t have any, exercise it. It’s a muscle. Start small doing the things you hate but you know are good for you. Build from there.

  6. Accountability. Are you one of those people that can be accountable to yourself? If so, great. Do it. Not everyone is though, so finding an accountability partner or a group might help.

  7. Compassion. Yes, this is tough love but let’s acknowledge that life isn’t always easy and some days we just don’t have the capacity to do the things we need to do. That’s okay. Look after yourself and don’t beat yourself up for it. Make sure your self-talk is loving and kind and resolve to look after yourself today and get back on track tomorrow.

You know the saying, long days, short years. Don’t put off doing what you need to do to have the life you want. Before you know it, you’ll have wasted years. Those will pass anyway, so you might as well pass them living the life you want.

You got this!
