Girl, Don’t be Thirsty - Pt 3: My Go-To Super Thirst Quencher Smoothie
Start your day off right with a quick and energizing breakfast
Now that you’re an expert in all things hydration, you’re ready to start your day with a splash! The following recipe is for my go-to breakfast - a nutrient-dense green smoothie, full of good-quality protein and healthy fats. This smoothie is so tasty and it will keep you full for hours. The high water-content fruits and veggies will rehydrate you first thing in the morning and keep you feeling energized all the way to lunch.
My energizing super thirst-quenching smoothie recipe:
Ingredients:
2 cups filtered room temperature water
1 mini cucumber or 3-inch chunk of cucumber
1 stick of celery
½ lime, peeled
½ green apple
Half a zucchini, frozen (this makes it super creamy!)
Half an avocado
3 Tbsp hemp seeds
½ scoop plant-based vanilla protein powder (I like Botanica because it has no stevia or sweetener, just a subtle vanilla flavour) OR 1 scoop of unflavoured collagen peptides
2 giant handfuls of organic spinach
OPTIONAL: 1 tsp stone-ground matcha tea (for an extra kick)
OPTIONAL: a scoop of your favourite greens powder, I use GRAMS
Directions:
Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender. Enjoy immediately.
Notes:
Makes 2 servings (I share with my SO)
Final word: So just how much water should you be drinking every day? The answer is: it depends on a few different factors. The season or climate, your activity level, and your height and weight all play an important role in determining how much water you should actually drink. Also, if you already barely drink eight glasses of water per week, let alone per day, the right amount of water for you to aim to drink will be much less than your typical recommendation.
Start by increasing your water consumption by a single glass every day or two and work your way up to eight tall glasses per day. From there, you can keep adding more until you get to around 2L per day. That’s what I aim for, and I feel that it’s a good amount for the average person.
