5 Daily Practises to Embrace the Divine Feminine in You

One of the most popular blog posts on our entire website was written almost a year ago by a guest writer, Shannon, one of our amazing intuitive arts practitioners from our in-person workshops.

This is interesting to me because in a world dominated by masculine energy, I think more and more people are becoming aware that there is a better way to live. That these previously held notions that women are weak homemakers that can be overly emotional and sometimes catty, are just hurtful stereotypes designed to not only take our power away, but also make us feel our innate power is something to be feared and locked away. Ignored. Snuffed out.

Enter the concept of the divine feminine, a concept that is as old as humanity itself. I love knowing that people are seeking out information on the subject, that girls and women alike are waking up to the idea that they are supremely powerful beings who are naturally intuitive, creative, connected, compassionate, supportive, and strong beyond measure.

A quote from our blog post The Rise of the Divine Feminine, that is way too good to not use again is this— that the Dalai Lama said, “the world will be rescued by western women.”

Powerful, am I right? The thought of us being the rescuers for once, and the male-dominated world the “damsel in distress”, inspires me everyday to cultivate more of the divine feminine energy that for so long I was so resistant to. After all, the story we were being told (in the Western world, at least) for centuries is this—it’s a man’s world. Embody the masculine if you want to get ahead and make a difference.

So in today’s post, I’m going to share five of my favourite ways to embrace the divine feminine within you. And by the way, just like the masculine energy we’ve been embodying and amplifying for so long— which isn’t inherently bad, just totally out of balance—the divine feminine energy is within all of us as well.

It’s an overused quote but it’s true: be the change you wish to see in the world. It’s not enough to just read about it, you have to be it. Let’s do it.

1. Dance. Everyday.

You don’t have to be a dancer to dance. Alright? Glad we got that out of the way.

Sahara Rose, best-selling author and creator of Rose Gold Goddesses, says that dancing is the divine feminine form of meditation. I love this thought because it’s so simple and true.

I’m sure we’ve all experienced it at some point in our lives: dancing in a bar with your girlfriends, finding your flow in a dance class, or just moving your body to your favourite music at home, dancing can make you feel some type of way.

When you are doing it completely for you and nobody else, dancing can put you in contact with some of the deepest parts of yourself. Call it your kundalini energy, your chi, or whatever, I know you know what I’m talking about because we’ve all felt it. So why are so many of us so afraid to call that power into our lives more often?

Here are my favourite ways to incorporate dance into your daily routine:

  1. Simply add dance to your morning or evening self-care routine. Fit it in wherever it makes the most sense for you. It’s a great way to wake up your energy in the morning, and a great way to release the day at night.
  2. Dance before your home workouts as a fun and different way to warm up your body and double up on those feel-good endorphins.
  3. My personal favourite: dance as a way to move stagnant and negative energy. Whenever I feel triggered, or like I’m holding onto emotional stuff that just isn’t serving me, I like putting on some music and dancing. And to be honest, a lot of the time it doesn’t start as dancing but more like swaying, shaking, etc., but eventually you’ll find you get into a rhythm and within minutes you’ll be wondering what it was you were so upset about.
  4. No matter when you’re dancing or why, dance is an amazing way to raise your vibration—which makes it a great time to set intentions, ask for guidance, or call in your vision for the future. Think of it as an energetic signal booster.

2. Give Birth… Figuratively (Explore Your Creativity)

“I’m not creative at all.” Something I used to say way too much in high school, university, and beyond. As someone who naturally gravitated to math and sciences in school, creativity and creative work was always something that I cowered from and dreaded. For a long time, I whole-heartedly believed that you were either creative or analytical.

Why is this such a pervasive belief?

One of the biggest shames in life, I think, is when people truly believe that there’s not a creative bone in their bodies. As women, literal creators of life on earth, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Is it because we were taught that creative work was less important than other types of work? (Not true.) But I guess it doesn’t really matter. The point is, that we all have creative energy that is just itching to be released and used, we just need to find how we want to manifest that in the world. Is it singing? Drawing? Graphic design? Cooking? Gardening? Writing? Photography?

There’s a million-and-one ways to be creative, the key is to just find what you love and do it. Regularly. The cool thing about getting in touch with your creative side is it helps you welcome more flow into your life in general. If, like I was, you’re afraid to get creative, it’s time to reacquaint yourself with that part of you and just watch how life becomes more beautiful.

3. Get in Touch with Your Sensual Side

One of the best ways to embrace your divine feminine energy is to get out of your logical, analytical mind and get into your body by tuning into your five physical senses.

Becoming deeply aware of your body in the present moment is a form of grounding. It can also turn on your parasympathetic nervous system, help you get out of fight or flight mode, and encourage relaxation and healing. You can do this through a little sensual self-care, anything that engages and delights your five senses.

The more you practise being grounded in your body, the more receptive you can be to your intuition and empathy, two of the most important gifts of the divine feminine.

Here are some examples of sensual self-care to add to your regular self-care routine:

  •       Take a bath with grounding bath salts and soothing essential oils
  •       After a bath, give yourself a massage with oil. I love using coconut oil in the Summertime because it feels cooling on the body. In the Winter I use sweet almond, which is naturally warming.
  •       Practise mindful eating
  •       Cook and bake with fragrant spices
  •       Listen to soothing music, hum, and/or sing often
  •       Surround yourself with beauty—pictures of family and friends, house plants, herbs, and flowers, crystals, art, or whatever else you love
  •       Spend as much time in nature as possible    

4. Hone your Intuition

Another sad reality is that, like creativity, a lot of us have come to believe that only certain people are intuitive. That you must have a “gift” to be able to access that part of yourself. This is simply not true! Intuition is an integral part of embodying the divine feminine.

And not only do we all have the ability to access our intuition, but we can hone and strengthen it as well. It just takes a little practise. Accessing your intuition is not unlike learning a new language. It’s the language your body speaks, and we learn best by listening, turning inward, and tuning into the feelings and subtle energies of our bodies.

Asking for guidance while meditating is one of my favourite ways to practise strengthening my intuition. I get into my usual comfy meditation position, focus on my breath for a few minutes, relax my body and mind. From there, I silently ask myself a question: “Should I enroll at X university?”, for example. The next step is to listen, not for thoughts, but for feelings and subtle sensations in the body.

For me, I can identify my intuition affirming a decision or answering yes to a question when I feel light in my body. Like gravity is suddenly a little softer. The opposite, a feeling of heaviness or increased density in my body, is a signal from my intuition that it’s not quite right. It may not necessarily mean “No, don’t do it!” but rather be a message of “Wait. Do not act yet. Be patient.”

As you practise going within and connecting to your intuition, you’ll find it becomes easier and easier, and eventually, you’ll be able to access your intuition during your regular life, not just when you’re meditating. Tuning into your intuition isn’t just about helping you make big, difficult life decisions, but also more menial ones—like what to eat, how to respond to an email, and which direction to walk the dog. In general, living intuitively helps you feel more inspired and guided on your life’s journey. I really encourage you to practise honing your intuition regularly. And if you thought in the past that you weren’t an intuitive person—think again!

5. Open Your Heart to Connect Deeper

This one is easier said than done, but it’s one of the most important ways to embrace and amplify your divine feminine energy. Opening your heart and leading with love sounds soft and “woowoo”, but it’s beyond challenging and one of the most courageous things you’ll ever do.

This takes a combination of self-reflection, empathy, and compassion. You don’t need to strive to love every single human you encounter, but can you at least understand them? The more connected you are to the people in your life—loved ones, friends, acquaintances, and even “foes”—the more connected and meaningful life becomes in general.

When we believe we’re separate, life is one big competition. Comparison, bullying, and judgment are the rules of the game. And although these can make you feel powerful, upon closer inspection, it’s false power. True, authentic power is the opposite—finding what unites you and the world around you, opening your heart, accepting people regardless of who they are and where they’re at (and how triggered they make you feel.)

So, my last practise to help you embrace your divine feminine is this: open your heart and practise understanding.

The next time you notice yourself judging someone, or feeling triggered by someone’s words, actions, appearance, etc., can you come to understand them? Can you, for just a few moments, put yourself in their situation, and try to understand why they do what they do? And can you ask yourself why it triggers you so much?

I know this is easier said than done, but it’s the most life-changing practise on this list. Not only for your own life. But actually, the more you do this, the more we all do this, the quicker the world will shift towards one that is more compassionate, empathetic, and loving.

Because this blog post wasn’t about embracing the divine feminine to destroy the patriarchy, or anything like that.

It’s simply to offer practises to help us bring the energies of the world and humanity back into balance. We still need the responsibility, logic, and confidence that comes naturally with the divine masculine. But if we want the world to change, we also need the compassionate power of the divine feminine. It’s time to start embracing that part of us.
